The Story continued .....
With direct BA flights from London and a year-round balmy climate, the Cayman Islands are one of the most child-friendly of all Caribbean destinations. Its people, as one would expect throughout the region, adore children of all ages and welcome them with open arms. Accommodation – whether luxury or budget– is equally child-friendly. The new five star Ritz-Carlton on Seven Mile Beach has spacious rooms, as do most of the properties on Grand Cayman, and an outstanding children’s club, Jean Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment. The programme is guaranteed to enthral (and educate) children aged four and above, as they learn about nature both on land and under the water. There is also a wide choice of well-priced self-catering accommodation, such as the Sunshine Suites, each with living area and kitchenette – ideal for self-sufficient families.
Seven Mile Beach is where kids are really in their element – crystal clear water, gentle waves, perfect conditions for paddling and swimming, and mile upon mile of pristine white soft sand.
Once children have got their sea legs, there is a plethora of entertainment, ranging from snorkelling and glass bottomed boats revealing the colourful underwater world, to Stingray City where they can swim with these beautiful and harmless creatures. On dry land, Boatswains Beach introduces them to the Cayman Islands’, or “Las Tortugas’” original namesake – the turtle – in a fun and educational setting.
Eating out with children in Cayman is easy too. Although there are many ‘child-friendly’ outlets, the quality of cuisine is so high that the most sophisticated restaurants serve meals that will encourage even the youngest taste buds to explore new flavours, fresh and straight from the sea.
The islands have one of the best infrastructures in the Caribbean, with easy driving, fabulous amenities and a safe, relaxing community that values and welcomes their overseas visitors. With a large number of British expatriates sharing their lives with the local Caymanians, it is impossible not to feel at home and at ease here.
