From all of us at GlobalAppointments.com to all of you, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Christmas is a time for Families, Fun, and Festivities!
A time of family gatherings and holiday meals.
A time for Santa, stars, and singing carollers.
A time for angels, gifts, and twinkling lights.
Of sleigh rides, hot cocoa, and mince pies.
A Brief history of Father Christmas:
Father Christmas is based on a real person, St. Nicholas. His other name 'Santa Claus' comes from the Dutch 'Sinterklaas'. Nicholas was a Christian leader from Myra (in modern-day Turkey) in the 4th century AD. He was very shy, and wanted to give money to poor people without them knowing about it. It is said that one day, he climbed the roof of a house and dropped a purse of money down the chimney. It landed in the stocking, which a girl had put to dry by the fire! This may explain the belief that Father Christmas comes down the chimney and places gifts in children's stockings.
Christmas is a time for giving, to family, friends and acquaintances. We also feel it is a time to consider others less fortunate that ourselves and one way to do just that is to click on the link below and give a gift to someone who really needs our thoughts and help at this time.

Recycling your Christmas tree:
Why is there a small evergreen tree in your living room?
This is a German tradition, started as early as 700 A.D. In the 1800s the tradition of a Christmas Tree was widespread in Germany, then moved to England and then to America through Pennsylvanian German immigrants. There are many different traditions surrounding the Christmas Tree. In the Czech republic, during the early 1900’s, it was generally accepted that Christmas Trees were hung from the ceiling upside down!!!!!
There are a lot of traditions and folk law tales surrounding Christmas. If you have an unusual Family tradition or know an interesting Christmas story please e-mail it to us for the 2006 Christmas Newsletter.
For those who opt for a real Christmas Tree instead of a plastic one this year, here are ecological ways of reusing or recycling it. If your tree has roots then plant it in the garden and it will be even bigger for next year (we did this and now it is too big for the house so we decorate it with Christmas lights and place it outside in the garden). Christmas trees can also be recycled to use as mulch. Many councils will come and collect you tree for just this purpose.
Christmas and babysitting:
It is definitely not too early to start considering your Christmas and New Year babysitting requirements as there are only
days, and counting, until Christmas, so time is not on your side. Nannies and Babysitters are in great demand during this period and usually get booked up very early. Register NOW if you are new to GlobalAppointment and save disappointment.

Pantomimes:
A pantomime is a traditional English Christmas play. They are an important part of the Christmas festivities. They traditionally start on Boxing Day and run for two or three months in theatres around the country. Nowadays, pantomimes are great family entertainments and pop stars, comedians, sports people and TV personalities often take part in them.
Originally silent productions, the pantomimes are a mix of fairy stories, folk tales and much loved cartoons, which encourage audience participation. The audience becomes very involved in the performance, with lots of hissing and booing of the villain and cheering for the hero. Some pantomimes include a song for the audience to join in with, and others invite children up on stage to chat to one of the performers.
In pantomimes the male roles are often played by women and female roles by men. This makes the audience laugh more. Favourite pantomimes are Snow White, Cinderella, Peter Pan, and Puss in Boots.

Whats new at GlobalAppointments? In a Christmas nutshell, lots:
Improvements to the childrens entertainers advertising area, and the family information exchange. Entertainment area set to become the most comprehensive resource of its kind on the Internet. USA to follow.
ADSometer to compare job seekers and job providers (families) rates of advertising. It shows that families are reluctant advertisers! This could have a knock on effect of discouraging e.g. nannies from advertising!
New home and garden care advertising center, where families as well as service providers can advertise. Sample adverts with a touch of humour.
'Fancy a laugh' page where GlobalAppointments staff bare all. Still waiting for those photographs ladies!
Thank you for reading our 2nd news letter.
